Funeral services for Sadie Lowene Jayne Wahlert, 87, Des Moines, formerly of Audubon County, were conducted Sept. 12, 2005 at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, with Pastor Robert Hennick officiating. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery in Exira. Casket bearers were: Matthew Wahlert, Curtis Wahlert, Kyle Wahlert, Andrew Jones, Scott Fogle, Richard Lawhead and Michael Gustason.

Sadie Lowene Jayne Wahlert, the daughter of Claude Edward and Prudence Viola Boyer Jayne, was born June 18, 1918, in Audubon County, and died Sept. 6, 2005, at the USA Health Care in Urbandale. Lowene was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church. She attended rural school in Greeley Center and then attended high school in Exira and Oregon.

On Oct. 9, 1937, she was united in marriage to Lester Theodore Wahlert and they together had nine children. They operated several farms in Audubon County. They moved to Audubon and Lowene was employed at the Audubon County Hospital. In 1974, when Lester retired, they moved to Tucson, AZ. Lowene worked at a nursing home in Tucson. Lester died June 27, 1982. Lowene moved back to Audubon County and worked at the Exira Care Center. After the flood of 1993 she assisted by traveling to Des Moines with a group to make sandwiches. Lowene moved to Des Moines in 1999 when her health problems began and then to the USA Health Care in Urbandale when she needed more assistance.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Lester Wahlert, were her children: Charles Wahlert and Charlotte May Gustason; her great-granddaughter, Michele Wahlert; her parents; her brothers, sisters, and spouses: Ed and Martha Jayne, Fred and Nola Jayne, Charles and Emma Jayne, Jim Jayne, Clyde and Arlene Jayne, Lee Jayne, Helen and John Lee, Cleone and Lloyd Christensen, Harley Garside, Rilla and Ward Lawler, Mary and Clyde Wahlert, Pearl and John Jensen; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harry Wahlert, Glenn and Flossie Wahlert, Frances and Ray Magill, Goldie and John Hackwell and Marie and Ed Hackwell.

Sadie is survived by her children: Richard and wife, Phyllis Wahlert of Columbus, GA; Dorothy Fogle of Des Moines; Prudy and husband, Robert Campbell of Adel; Lee and wife, Janet Wahlert of Adel; Steven and wife, Candy Wahlert of Des Moines; Martha and husband, Stephen Jones of Collinsville, OK; and Thomas and wife, Celine Wahlert of Woodbridge, VA; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edna Petersen of Exira, cousin Maynard and wife, Dee Jayne of Johnston; and many nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives.
