Graveside services for Milo A. Nissen, 90, were conducted July 9, 2005 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, with Pastor Mary Kenyon officiating.

Milo Alfred Reinholdt Nissen, the son of Jess and Mollie Miller Nissen was born Feb. 23, 1915, on his parent’s farm in Highland Township near Bayard and died July 6, 2005, at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll.

Milo was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools in Guthrie County and graduated from Gray consolidated school in Audubon, County. He then was employed by several area farmers.

On June 2, 1936, he was united in marriage to Ethel Mae Aikman at her parent’s home in Lincoln Township. Three children were born to this union. They operated Ethel’s parent’s farm until 1970. Both Milo and Ethel attended semidriver training school in Indianapolis, IN. They drove semitrucks going from coast to coast for several years. During their semitruck career, they drove through nearly every state. He retired from driving, and then worked as a mechanic. They lived in Audubon when Ethel moved to the Exira Care Center in July of 1994. Ethel died Dec. 15, 1994. Milo lived in Audubon until he moved to the Carroll Health Center in October of 1995.

Milo was a member of the Gray Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife was his infant son, Larry Nissen; his parents; his brothers: Arnold and wife, Marie Nissen, Donald Nissen, Franklin Nissen; and an infant brother, Delbert Nissen.

Milo is survived by his children: Gary and wife, Deanna Nissen of Audubon; Jane and husband, Donald Leib of Des Moines; his grandchildren: Julie and husband, David Bowman of Centreville, VA; Tammy and husband, Ryan Bickel of Urbandale; Tracy and husband, Matthew McVey of West Des Moines; and Steven Leib of Des Moines; his great-grandchildren: Joshua and Jared Bowman both of Centreville; and Lucas Bickel of Urbandale; his sister, Virginia and husband, David Alexander of Overland Park, KS; his sister-in-law, Viola and husband, Herbert Skinner of Montana; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
