Funeral services for Joann E. Clausen, 62, were conducted June 10, 2005 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, with Pastor Henry Flessner officiating. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton. Casket bearers were Dennis Newman, Paul Comstock, Eldon Norgaard, Jim McClain, Darrell Petersen, and Terry Sander.

Joann Elaine Clausen, the daughter of Andrew L. and Mildred Kester Christensen, was born August 4, 1942 in Harlan, and died June 6, 2005, with her family at her side in her home in Elk Horn.

Joann was baptized at the Elk Horn Baptist Church. She attended Elk Horn Community Schools, graduating from the Elk Horn–Kimballton High School with the Class of 1961. She then attended school in Minneapolis, MN for a short time.

On April 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to Gary L. Clausen at the Elk Horn Baptist Church. Three daughters were born to this union. Joann was employed at several area restaurants for several years. She was employed as an aide at the Salem Lutheran Homes. In 1975, she attended school at Iowa Western Community College in Atlantic and received her licensed practical nursing designation in 1976. She continued to work at the Salem Lutheran Home as an LPN for over 32 years until she retired on May 15, 2005 due to her failing health.

Joann was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton and the Civic Center in Des Moines.

Preceding her in death were her guardian angel grandson, Dalton Sohm; her parents; her brother, Russell Christensen; her sisters–in–law: Gloria Clausen, Leona Christensen, Fran Christensen, and father–in–law, Emmert Clausen.

Survivors include her husband, Gary L. Clausen of Elk Horn; her daughters: Tami and husband, Todd Jacobsen of Kimballton; Trish and husband, Randy Eden of Atlantic; Tonya and husband, Berny Sohm of Schleswig; her grandchildren: Cody Jacobsen, Abby Jacobsen, Chelsea Jacobsen, all of Kimballton; Gage Eden, Austin Eden, Parker Eden, all of Atlantic; Paige Sohm and Nick Sohm, both of Schleswig; her brothers and sisters: Earl and wife, Sylvia Christensen of Graham, WA; Ernest and wife, Pinkie Christensen of Glenview, IL; Cloyd Christensen of Cherry Hill, NJ; LaVerne and wife, Audrey Christensen of Calabasa, CA; Melva Christensen of Laguna Woods, CA; Norma and husband, Rob Wall of Loudon, TN; her mother–in–law, Lucille Clausen of Elk Horn; her brother–in–law, Lanny and wife Carol Clausen of Madrid; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
