Funeral services for Ollivene F. Deist, 88, were conducted June 3,2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, with Pastor Dwayne Ferguson officiating. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. Casket bearers were grandsons: Scott Deist, Stacey Deist, Shawn Deist, Robert Winther, Chad Deist, Russell Brownsberger and Ryan Brownsberger.

Ollivene Faye Deist, the daughter of Ray and Hazel McFadden Kauffman, was born May 7, 1917, on her parents’ farm in Lincoln Towhship, northwest of Audubon, and died May 30, 2005, at the Friendship Home in Audubon.

Ollivene was baptized at the Christian Church in Audubon. She attended rural school, “Lincoln No. 9”, then helped on the family farm.

On October 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to Allison Deist in Shenandoah, Iowa. They operated and lived on a farm north of Audubon for many years where they raised their five children. In 1965, they moved into Audubon. Ollivene was employed at the Friendship Home in the housekeeping and mending department. Allison died in May of 1973. Ollivene continued to work at the Friendship Home until she retired after working there for over 24 years in 1989. Ollivene lived in her own home until she moved to the Friendship Home on May 25, 2005.

Ollivene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon and a member of the Women’s Circle.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her infant son, Morris Eugene Deist; her infant granddaughter, Melissa Deist; her son–in–law, Roger Winther; her parents; her brother, Russell Kauffman; her sister, Dorothy Madsen; her brothers–in–law and sisters–in–law: Leona Deist, Art Deist, Vernon and wife, Lila Deist.

Survivors include her children: John Paul and wife, Carlene Deist; Jerry R. and wife, Margie Deist; Ivan Deist; Mary E. Winther, all of Audubon and Dorothy (Dottie) and husband, Dan Brownsberger of Oakland; her grandchildren: Lana and Mark Greimann of Huxley; Scott and Tricia Deist of Audubon; Stacey Deist of Polk City; Shawn and Staci Deist; Nina M. Deist; Chad and Jennifer Deist; Kendra Deist and Nathan Bladt, all of Audubon; Sandy and Russ Byriel of Ankeny; Shelia Bahm of Mitchell, SD; Robert and Angie Winther of Audubon; Sharon Winther of Shelby; Russell Brownsberger and Ryan Brownsberger, both of Phoenix, AZ; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters–in–law and brothers–in–law: Alice Kauffman and Einar Madsen, both of Audubon; Bill Deist of Exira; Elsie Deist and Edna Koenig, both of Audubon; special and caring friend, LaVonne Harper of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
