Funeral services for Edith A. Martin, 95, were conducted April 29, at the Exira Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bill Embree officiating. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery. Casket bearers were her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Edith Alice Martin, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth Libby Hoover Griffin, was born April 22, 1910, on her parents’ farm east of Exira and died April 26, 2005, at the Exira Care Center.

Edith was baptized as an adult at the Exira Lutheran Church. She attended several rural schools in Audubon County, then helped at home.

On June 27, 1928, she was united in marriage to Keith Martin at the Christian Church Parsonage in Audubon. They lived on several different farms and lived in Exira. After moving into Exira, Edith was employed at various cafes in the Exira area. She later worked as a cook at the Exira Elementary School for 14 years until she retired. Keith died in 1987. Edith lived in her own home until she moved to the Exira Care Center on Feb. 2, 2005. Edith was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, were her parents; an infant sister, Thelma Griffin; her sisters: Myrtle and first husband, Van Kline and second husband, Oluf Olsen and Doris Paulsen and husband, Lester Paulsen; her brother: Arnold Griffin, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Roy Johnson, Lowell Martin, Karl and wife, Reba Martin, Esther and husband, Earl Marks and Frances Griffin.

Edith is survived by her daughter, Mardell and husband, Marvin Sorensen of Exira; her grandchildren: Craig (Bub) and Janet Sorensen and Charles and Connie Sorensen, all of Exira; Jane and Ross Johnson of Bakersfield, CA; her great-grandchildren: Brandy and Randy Fiebelkorn of Exira; Nichole and Bryan Towlerton of Altoona; Angela Sorensen and fiancé, Mark Swearingen of Omaha, NE; Dustin Sorensen and fiancée, Megan Paulson of Urbandale; Kevin Sorensen of Waukee; Jill Johnson and Ross Johnson, Jr., both of Bakersfield; Sheri and Keith Wede of Virginia Beach, WV; Staci and Chris Johnson of Omaha; her great-great-grandchildren: Jacob and Brookelyn Fiebelkorn both of Exira; Maison Weiss, Makalya Weiss, Gracee Wede and Charlee Wede, all of Virginia Beach; Hank Johnson and Sarah Johnson, both of Omaha; Blake, Bryce, and Jesse Towlerton, all of Waterloo; her twin sister, Elsie Johnson of Exira; her brothers: Leland Griffin of Exira; Norman and wife, Imo Griffin of Grandin, ND; her sisters-in-law: Violet Griffin of Atlantic; and Marge Griffin of Adel, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
