Mary Akers, 97,
Dies In Anita
Mrs. Mary B. Akers, 97, died
at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the
Crestwood Nursing home in Ani-
ta, where she had been a resi-
dent for three years. She was
a longtime Audubon county resi-
dent.
Mrs. Akers was born Sept. 23,
1875, near Lewis, the daughter
of Byron Jessie and Martha
Vance Harris. She grew to wom-
anhood in the Lewis area and
was married July 26, 1895, to
Lincoln Akers in Audubon. They
farmed south of Exira in Au-
dubon county until retiring.
She is survived by ten chil-
dren, six sons, Byron of Menlo,
Trilby of Brayton, Frank of
Exira, Alie of Brayton, Har-
old L. of Brayton and
Lewis of Brayton; four daugh-
ters, Mrs. Cleo Brown of Elec-
tric City, Wash., Mrs. Lilly
Schwarting of Exira, Mrs. Wi-
nona Kesselring of Ventura,
Calif., and Mrs. Clyde (Coral)
Heck of Ventura, Calif.; 35
grandchildren, 81 great-grand-
children and 25 great-
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband in 1958; two
sons, Otto in 1962 and Robert
in 1928; two daughters, Mrs. Ed
Stager in 1965 and Sylvia in
infancy; a sister, two brothers,
a half sister, a half-brother and
three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday at the Exira Chris-
tian church, with Rev. Walter
M. Bartholf officiating. Inter-
ment will be in Oakfield ceme-
tery. The body will lie in state
at the Long Funeral home in
Anita until 9:30 a.m. Wednes-
day when it will be taken to
the church for services.
