ANOTHER WAR
VETERAN GONE

------------

James Pleasant Lair was born at
Macoupin County, Illinois, Septem-
ber 11, 1839. He served as a mu-
sician during the Civil War in Co.
E. 122 Ill. Infantry.

October 10, 1867 he was married
to Harriet Rudge of Burnside, Illi-
nois. To this union three children
were born, James, Charles and
Frank, James being the only one
surviving his father. In 1869 Mr.
Lair moved with his family to Exi-
ra, Iowa, where Mrs. Lair passed
away July 13, 1892. In 1893 he
was again married to Mrs. Mary
Eleanor Harvey, who died in 1895.

On April 20th he was married to
Mrs. Nancy Davis, who now sur-
vives him.

As a young man Mr. Lair joined
the Christian church of which he
has been faithful member until
his death. Most of his life he has
enjoyed good health until the last
two years when he took sick with
influenza, from which he never fully
recovered. The last eight weeks he
had been suffering much from gan-
grene in one limb. Three weeks
ago he was taken to the Atlantic
hospital, where he paassed away the
23rd day of May, 1920, his age
being 81 years, 8 months and 12
days. He leaves to mourn his
departure a wife, one son, eight
step children and other relatives.

The funeral was held yesterday
afternoon in the Christian church,
Rev. Rasmussen in charge. He had
been a member of the Mason Lodge
for many years, and that organi-
zation attended the funeral in a
body. The remains were laid to
rest in the Exira cemetery. The
pall bearers were ex service men,
who were dressed in their uniforms.

CARD OF THANKS

I wish to thank all who assisted
in the care of my beloved husband
during his sickness and after his
death, also the Masons who took
charge of his funeral and those who
brought the beautiful floral offerings
and the Christian friends who pre-
sented the beautiful flag.

Mrs. J. P. Lair
