MRS. MARY THIELEN
DIES AT HOSPITAL
------------
Operation Fails to Save Life
of Local Woman. Funeral
Held Yesterday
------------

The death of Mrs. Mary Thielen,
well known Exira lady, occurred at
the Mayo hospital at Rochester, Minn.,
Saturday following an operation per-
formed last Tuesday for the removal
of gallstones. After the operation it
was reported that she was recovering
nicely, but complications arose which
resulted in her death.

The deceased was born in New
York state on August 10, 1869. She
came to Audubon county with her
parents when but two years of age
and had continuously resided here
until the time of her death. On the
20th day of February, 1894, she was
united in marriage to Matthew Thiel-
en in Exira. The husband preceded
her in death about 9 years ago.
She is survived by seven children, who
are: Bernie, Jake, Nick, Jean, Cecelia
and Clara, all of Exira, and Mrs.
Katherine Shaw of Dexter.

Six brothers and sisters also sur-
vive: John Tharnish of Auburn,
Henry Tharnish of Creighton, Neb.,
Peter Tharnish of Stuart, Mrs. Kate
South of Carroll, Mrs. Anna Kommes
of LeMars and Miss Cecelia Tharnish
of Exira.

All of the children, with the ex-
ception of Mrs. Shaw of Dexter, were
at the mother's bedside when she
passed away.

Funeral services were held at the
Catholic church yesterday morning at
nine o'clock conducted by Rev. Fr.
Costello. Interment was made in the
Exira Catholic cemetery.

In the death of Mrs. Thielen the
community has lost a splendid wo-
man, one who was loved by all who
knew her and the sympathy of all
is extended to the bereaved family.
