HAS PASSED BEYOND

MRS. CHAS. VAN GORDER DIED
AT HER HOME IN AUDUBON
MONDAY EVE, MARCH 23

Mrs. Laura J. Van Gorder, a resi-
dent of Audubon county since 1869,
passed away at her home in Audubon
Monday evening, following an illness
of long duration. For a number of
years Mrs. Van Gorder had been an
invalid. She was in her eighty-first
year.

The deceased was the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Delahoyde and
was born in Omagh, Ireland, Feb-
ruary 20, 1845. She came to America
with her parents in the year 1847.
The family resided in Boston, Mass.,
for several years, moving from there
to Brooklyn, N.Y., where they lived
until 1854, during which year they
came to Iowa, locating first at Grin-
nell, where she made her home with
her parents until 1869.

On November 28, 1869, she was
married to Chas. Van Gorder at Oak-
field. They made their home at Exira
until their removal to Audubon nearly
forty-four years ago.

She is survived by three children:
Edwin S., Sidney L. and Mrs. Lowene
Kirk of Glencoe, Illinois. One son,
Ralph Bruce, died in 1884. Beside
these there are four grandchildren,
Edwin S. and Charles G. Van Gorder,
and Van Gorder and Janet Kirk, one
sister, Mrs. Lena Walker of Audubon,
three brothers, Wm. Delahoyde of Au-
dubon; Thomas of Bluehill, Neb., and
Frederick of Guthrie county. Her
husband, Chas. S. Van Gorder, died
May 29, 1924.

Funeral services were held at the
First Presbyterian church in Audubon
Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. O.
B. Lee in charge. Interment was in
Maple Grove cemetery.
