MOTHER DICUS HAS
PASSED BEYOND

------------
ANOTHER GOOD WOMAN IS
CALLED IN DEATH. ILL
ONLY A SHORT TIME

------------

During the early hours of Saturday
morning, Mother Dicus, the estimable
mother of Postmaster J. F. Dicus,
passed into that sleep from which
there is no awakening in this world.
Few of her friends knew that her con-
dition was serious, though many knew
that for the past few years she had
been gradually weakening as old age
crept onto her.

Christmas day she sat at the table
with her son and daughter-in-law and
partook of her dinner as usual. A
short time afterward her son tuned
in the radio for her to listen to the
programs as she was delighted with
music. He noticed that she did not
appear as well as usual and soon
she complained that she wanted to
lie down. She was placed in bed and
the family physician called. He told
the family that she was suffering
from a bad case of kidney trouble,
which had been bothering her for
years. She soon sank into uncon-
sciousness and never was able to rec-
ognize any member of the family
after that.

Sarah Rudge Dicus was born near
Quincy, Illinois, September 2, 1844,
and passed away in Griswold, Iowa,
on December 27, 1924, aged 80 years,
3 months and 25 days. She grew to
womanhood in her native state and on
July 3, 1872, she was united in mar-
riage to John Dicus (1839-1916). In the year
1874 they came to Iowa and settled
at Exira where Mr. Dicus engaged in
the printing business. Mr. and Mrs.
Dicus were blessed with four children,
two sons and two daughters, Mrs.
Alice Haake of Lewis, John of Gris-
wold, Edward and Susie, the latter
two passed away in infancy.

In the year 1896 Mr. and Mrs.
Dicus came to Griswold to make their
home. Mr. Dicus passed away in
February, 1916. Since that time she
has made her home with her son.

Mother Dicus united with the Chris-
tian church as a young girl and until
she was called from this world was a
steadfast member of the church. Of
late she had not been able to attend
the services but her faith never waiv-
ered.

Besides the son and daughter men-
tioned above she leaves four grand-
children and a host of friends, both in
Griswold and in her old home in Exira.

Short funeral services were held at
the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30
being conducted by L. L. Oswalt, pas-
tor of the Church of Christ. The re-
mains were taken by train to Exira
Monday morning where services were
held. Interment was made in the
cemetery at Exira.--Griswold Ameri-
can.
