John Jacob Baier

Funeral services for the late Jacob Baier of Atlantic, a farmer, resident of this county, were held Friday afternoon at the local Church of Christ with the Rev. H.J. Zuern of Atlantic in charge, assisted by the Rev. A.G. Whittier. Burial was in the Exira Cemetery. Mr. Baier died last Thursday morning at his home in Atlantic as a result of compications following a paralytic stroke he suffered Sept 18. John Jacob Baier was born in Baden, Germany on July 25, 1858 and came to the United States in 1879 locating in Iowa county. Later he moved to Audubon county where he farmed for 37 years. After retiring from the farm, he went to California where he spent some time and in 1922 he moved to Atlantic. Mr. Baier was united in marriage to Mary Ringlieb in Benton county in 1885 and to this union were born 11 children all of whom are living. Mrs. Baier died several years ago and on Sept 10, 1921 he was married to Pauline Maseman. Survivors besides his widow are 11 children and 32 grandchildren. Children are Albert Baier of SD, John of Mount Ayr, Otto & Edward of Exira, Ella Brady of Guthrie Center, Dorothy Johnson of Lake City, Marie Campbell of Ida Grove, Lena Burns and Harriet Miller of Audubon and Eleanor Farrell of Vinton.
