OBITUARY

John Jurgen Palm was born in Hol-
stein, Germany, August 24, 1839. He
came to this country when a young
man, and settled in Henry county Ill.,
was united in marriage to Charlotte
Jacobsen on March 30, 1875. They
came to Iowa in 1882. To this union
eight children were born, two died in
infancy. The wife and mother de-
parted this life November 21, 1889.

The deceased being one of the very
early settlers in Iowa, he experienced
all the hardships and sufferings of
life in a new country; yet without a
murmer or complaint.

After the loss of his helpmate his
problems were more difficult; but he
proved himself equal to the occasion,
and kept the family together and
maintained the home life.

With the exception of about four
years he had the family in Illinois,
they have made their home near and
in Exira since coming to Iowa.

Mr. Palm was baptized and con-
firmed in the Lutheran Church at 16
years of age. He remained a faithful
and consistent member of the church
until he passed away April 23, 1924,
in the afternoon at his home in Exira.

He leaves to mourn his loss two
sons, Charles and Frank of Guthrie
Center, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs.
Brunner of Colton, Calif; Laura, Lena
and Nora of Exira. Two nieces Mrs.
A. C. Schwenneker of Des Moines
and Miss Molly Haack of Williams-
burg, Iowa. Eleven grand children.
One brother passed away in Germany,
and one sister, Mrs. Fred Wahlert,
passed away in January 1921.
"The stars shall shine for a thousand
years,
A thousand years and a day;
But God and I will live and live
When the stars are passed away."
