Hans M. Buckholdt, 66, of Hamlin, a retired Iowa Department of Transportation employee, died March 23, 1993 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha.

The son of Nels and Hanna Mortensen Buckholdt, he was born in Hamlin September 26, 1926, baptized November 21, 1926, and confirmed April 20, 1941 at the Hamlin Lutheran Church.

He attended school in Hamlin and the Audubon High School and was a truck driver for Carl and Chris Sorensen for several years. He later was employed in road maintenance by the state.

His marriage to Martha Albertsen took place August 18, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. Buckholdt was inducted into the Army Jan. 2, 1951 and served in Korea, receiving a discharge Oct. 1, 1952.

He then returned to Hamlin, where he continued to work for the Iowa DOT as an equipment operator until retiring in 1988 after 38 years of service.

He was a member of Hamlin Lutheran Church, Dale Christensen Post 4119, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Audubon American Legion Post 120.

Surviving are is wife; three sons, Douglas Buckholdt of Sioux City, Ronald Buckholdt of Harlan, and Ricky Buckholdt of Des Moines and his wife Denise; his grandchildren, Christi Buckholdt and Michelle Buckholdt of Sioux City; Jamie, Cathy, and Bryan Buckholdt of Harlan, Adam Meyer of Des Moines; a brother Eilert Buckholdt of Audubon and his wife Lois; a sister Betty Christensen of Audubon and her husband Herb; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock at 2 p.m. Friday March 26, at the Hamlin Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Hamlin Cemetery.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Audubon American Legion Post 120 and Dale Christensen Post 4119 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Honorary casket bearers will be Christi, Michelle, and Cathy Buckholdt. Casket bearers will be Bryan and Jamie Buckholdt, Adam Meyer, Brian Christensen, Gary and Greg Gust.

The family will meet friends at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.
