Barn and Crib
Razed by Fire

--------
Three Horses Perish, Hay and
Grain Also Burned in Mid-
night Conflagration

-------

A large barn and corn crib were
completely destroyed by fire Monday
night on the farm occupied by Louie
Hansen and Roy Riley, nine miles
northeast of Exira. The blaze was
discovered almost twelve o'clock and
had presumabley started from defec-
tive wiring, the place being equipped
with an electric light plant.

Three horses in the barn perished
after efforts to get them out proved
futile. The barn was filled with hay.
In the corn crib, 1200 bushels of oats
were stored and those were a total
loss. A new grain elevator, installed
only recently, was partially destroyed.
A tractor, stored in the crib, was got-
ten out by Mr. Riley but in the act
he recieved a badly burned right hand.

The loss of property owned by Han-
sen & Riley was partially covered by
insurance. The loss of the barn and
corn crib was fully covered by insur-
ance. The farm belongs to Chas. &
Walter Hensley, Soren Madsen and P.
M. Christensen and they have already
made arrangements to build a new
barn and crib.
