I doubt if she came from Appanoose County or if she returned there after his death. Here are the archives for the Appanoose County newspapers:

I did a search, putting "florence hymes" in the search box (with quotes) and only found one article, a mention in 1951 of her attending a social event in Mystic with the title Mrs. I also can't find any record of her in Appanoose County under either her married or maiden name in records at ancestry.com or familysearch.org.

If you search for "Robert Hymes" in the newspaper site, you'll find his marriage to Albeina Grubio on 10/3/1946, a note that he moved to Muscatine for work 1/25/1947, then a few months later several pieces on a serious marital dispute. I'd say it's more likely Florence came from the Muscatine area since that's here he lived after leaving Mystic.
