I've abstracted 40 volumes of genealogical material from various illinois newspapers, and around the turn of the century obituaries are mostly brief . the family was expected to pay to have a longer obituary in the paper..exceptions included well known people or if the deceased died in some sort of accident, obituaries in appanoose county for the people I am researching were brief and not thorough at all for the turn of the century era.
