Funeral services for Mrs. Vern Downing, 30, were held Saturday afternoon at St. Paul's Methodist church at Waukon with the Rev. H.C. Culver officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Smithfield cemetery.
Mrs. Downing died Wednesday, March 12, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stafford, in Waukon, following a hemorrhage. On Feb. 28 she gave birth to a son.
Regina Bernice Stafford Downing was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stafford and was born on a farm in Franklin township, Allamakee county, north of Monona, July 21, 1910. She obtained her education at the Smithfield rural school.
She was married to Vern Elmer Downing June 20, 1928, at New Hampton. The home was established in Waukon, where six children were born to them. They are Robert, Neale, Billy, Darlene, Dean, and Gary, who with the husband survive her.
She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stafford, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Syverson and Maxine, one niece, Betty Carol Syverson, and her aged grandmother, Mrs. Clara Stafford, all of Waukon.
Two sisters, Betty Ann and Hulda Clara, preceded her in death.
Pall bearers were Everett Palmer, Leon and Lester Henderson, Elmer Hefner, Dale Robey, and Kenneth Neubauer.
