We learned only a few days ago that Mr. Wm. Cox, one of the pioneer settlers in Iowa township, had lost a girl, the pet of the family, by scarlet fever. She died about the middle of December. Her age was 13 years, and her death has caused almost inconsolable grief in the family.

~North Iowa Journal, Wednesday, January 24, 1877; pg 3

Note: The 1870 census, Iowa twp., William Cox family included 2 daughters, E.J. (age 8) and Margaret (age 2). E.J. would have been abt 14 yrs. old in 1876. Depending on her DOB, she is very possibly the deceased daughter
