Emmet Cunningham Death

Emmet Cunningham, well known Waukon resident, died early Saturday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Joseph Ryan in Waukon, where he had made his home the past year. He had been a sufferer of Bright's disease for some time and it was not until ten days ago that his condition became serious.

He was born on a farm in Hanover township, January 2, 1885, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cunningham, early settlers there. After completing his education in the rural schools he attended Valder Business college at Decorah, and later attended college in Cedar Rapids.

The greater part of his life was devoted to the selling of real estate in northeastern Iowa, where he was widely known.

He is survived by four sisters and six brothers, namely: Mrs. Joe Ryan of Waukon; Sister M. Lucy, Dubuque; Mrs. Joe Fahey and Mrs. William Farley of Union Prairie; Willard Cunningham of Hanover; Joe of Lansford, N.D.; James of Prairie du Chien; Albert of Des Moines; George of Kansas City, MO., and Charles of New York.

The funeral was held from the Ryan home Monday morning to St. Patrick's church, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated by the paster, the Rev. Ernest J. McDonald, who also preached an appropriate sermon. Burial was made in the family lot in Mount Olivet cemetery, with prayers at the graveside being offered by the assistant pastor, the Rev. William Kunsch. Casket bearers were Chas. Regan, Pat Mahoney, Milton C. Stoneburg, William Peterson, Pat Gallagher, Leonard O'Brien, Vic Zoll and Leonard Ryan.
