Mrs. Phena Weir Dies at Shellsburg

SHELLSBURG - Mrs. Phena Weir, 70, resident of Shellsburg for the last 13 years died at her home Sunday afternoon following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Weir was born Phena Johnson July 25, 1883 at Newhall, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pyous Johnson. She married Robert Weir at Mt. Auburn September 10, 1906. He died April 12, 1949. Mrs. Weir was a member of the Presbyterian church.

Surviving are three sons, Merle of Mt.Auburn; Clair of Southgate, Cal, and Glen of Cedar Rapids; three daughters Mrs. Delbert Elson of Jesup, Mrs. Charles Kocher of Palo and Mrs. Lester Schirm of Alburnett, 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters Mrs. Walter Maynard and Mrs. James Bridge of Cedar Rapids and three brothers Robert and Clifford Johnson of Shellsburg and Cecil Johnson of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by a grandson, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday...at the Presbyterian church here with Rec. Leonard F_____? in charge. Burial will be in Shellsburg Cemetery.

The body is at the Miller Funeral Home in Vinton...

Shellsburg April 12 Robert H. Weir, 75, retired Shellsburg farmer died at his home here early this morning after a two year's illness with heart trouble.

He was born near Newhall in Eldorado township Dec. 25, 1873, a son of Mr and Mrs. John Weir. He married Phena Johnson at Mt. Auburn Sept 10, 1906.

Surviving are his widow three sons. Merl Weir of Mt Auburn, Clair Weir of Toledo Ia, and Glen Weir of Cedar Rapids, three daughters Mrs. Marie Elson of Jesup, Mrs. Doris Kocher of Palo and Mrs Lois Schirm of Shellsburg, and 13 grandchildren. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Woodmen lodge of Shellsburg. A sister Mrs. Della Penny of Shellsburg also survives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Weir home in Shellsburg at two o'clock. Rev. Jerome Leksa will be in charge. Burial will be in the Shellsburg cemetery...
