The Past Week One of Many Sad Fatalities
Howard Spitler
The body of Howard Spitler, accompanied by the young man’s mother, arrived In Belle Plaine Monday. The death of Mr. Spitler occurred at Clear Lake, Iowa, resulting from an operation for appendicitis. Several years ago deceased was associated wih his father In the livery business hero under the firm name of Spitler & Son.
Howard Alexis Spitler, eldest son of J. E. and Elizabeth Spitler, was born in Bennett, Cedar county, Ia., Sept. 16, 1874, and died in Clear Lake, Nov. 24, 1907, at the ago of 33 yrs., 2 months and 8 days.
He came to Belle Plaine, from Bennett, in company with his parents, in 1897, where his father died in 1890. He then accompanied his mother to Rhodes, Iowa, and after a residence of less than two years in that town, to Webster City, where he remained until last May, when he removed to Clear Lake.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Berger, of Webster City his brothers, David of Storm Lake, Ia., F. B. and wife and John M. of Webster City. His only sister died in 1884, at the ago of 8 years.
His funeral services wore hold Tuesday afternoon at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Webb, of Belle Plaine, conducted by the Rev. L. L. Lockard, pastor of tho First M. E. Church. Interment in Oak Hill.
