Vinton Review; July 28, 1898

William Sullivan Snow

On Wednesday, July 20, 1898, occurred the death of W. S. Snow of Blairstown. Mr. Snow was one of the pioneers of Benton county, having moved here with his wife in 1855, and settled on a farm in Kane township; from there he moved to Blairstown in 1861 where he has since resided, always taking a prominent part in all interests. He was a native of Maine, but moved to Ohio during childhood. In 1851 he joined a party going round cape Horn to seek California gold. After remaining three years in the gold mines he made the overland trip back to Ohio. Mr. Snow has been suffering for months from a cancerous tumor and went to Cedar Falls a week ago to submit to an operation. The funeral services were conducted by the Masonic brotherhood. The deceased leaves a wife, a daughter, Mrs. N. B. Hamilton of Coggon, and numerous friends to mourn his death.
