Lamon Shaffer
Vinton Review, Dec. 29, 1898 L. S. Shaffer died at his home in this city this afternoon from pneumonia after a few days' illness. He leaves a wife and a number of children. Vinton Review, Jan. 5, 1899 Lamon Shaffer who death was mentioned in these columns last week, was born in Utica, Ohio, August 16, 1839. Ho enlisted in tho Ohio volunteer infantry in 1861, and took part in several battles. Becoming disabled, he was discharged August 9, 1862. He re-enlisted May 13, 1863, and served until his term of enlistment expired.. He came to Benton county soon after tho war, and was married to Mary E. Houck, daughter of Joseph Houck, of Blairstown, March. 25, 1872. He was the father of eight children, seven of whom are stil1 living and attended the funeral, which was conducted by the Union Vetetan [sic] Union. He was also a member of the G. A. R.
