Death of an Old Citizen
Alexander Runyon SR.

Alexlander Runyon, Sr. of Shellsburg Died Last Sunday Evening
Was Seventy Years Old And Had Served as Treasurer And Representative.

Died-At Shellsburg, Iowa Sunday, August 2nd, 1903, Alexander Runyon, St. In the 70th year of his life age.

Alaxander Runyon, St. was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, October 14th, 1839. His Boyhood days were spent at Plainfield. At 17 years of age he moved to Chicago, whre he was engaged in the clothing business untill he removed to Iowa. While in Chicago he married Elizabet T. Reeves to whom were born six children, John, Alden, Alexander,Jr; Anna, Nellie and Elizabeth, three of who died in infancy and three, Alexander Jr., Anna and Nellie survive him.

April 15th 1870, Mrs. Runyon died and December 31st 1871 Mr. Runyon married Mrs. M.E. Winslow, who together with her son, Edward N. Winsolw and the three children last named, comprise the family who morn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.

In 1857 Alex Runyon moved to Benton county Iowa. From 1800 to 1864 he served as Treasure of Benton county and from 1864 to 1866 as representive to the State Legislature. In 1889 he was again appointed County Treasure, elected that fall and served two more terms.
