A Short Sketch of the Life of Sylvester Potter
Sylvester Potter

Sylvester Potter was born near Port Hope, Ontario Co. Canada, Oct. 25, 1828 and died at his home, June 26, 1903 age 73 years, 8 months and 1 day.

In 1854 he went to Ogle county, Ill. was married to Mary E. Niles Jan. 18th, 1857 by whom he had one child, William N., who died in early man hood. In 86 he moved to Benton county, Iowa. His second wife was Flora Blanchard to whom were born three children, two still remain, Stella A. and Roscoe B., with the present wife, formerly Blanche Roache, whom he married June 27, 1889, and an aged sister survives to mourn his loss.

Although the last four years have been long years of suffering he always hoped that he might still be able to do something for those he loved. He was a kind neighbor, a loving father and a good husband.

Benton County Herald; July 29, 1884

William F. Potter

Died - At his home, in Olin, Jones County, Iowa, Saturday morning, July 19, 1884, after a protracted illness, Dr. W. F. Potter, aged 65 years. Dr. Potter was formerly a resident of Vinton, and a brother of C. H. Potter, Mrs. G. H. [Nancy F.] Webb and Mrs. J. C. [Huldah] Parmeter.

"As a physician Dr. Potter had few equals, and as a man, had many warm personal friends. He was an affectionate husband, a kind father and a good neighbor, who death is mourned by his family and a large circle of friends. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. B. F. Norris" - Olin Recorder
