William Lawyer
Dysart Reporter:— William Lawyer, whose serious illness was mentioned in the last issue of the Reporter, passed away at his home in Dysart, Sunday at 2 o’clock, p. m., after an illness of two weeks with bowel trouble. Deceased was born in Schoharie county, New York, in 1838. At the age of 20 he was joined in marriage to Mrs. Aurelie Halenbeek, who now survives him. In 1865 they came to Iowa, settling in Benton county near the present site of Mooreville where they remained until four years ago when they moved to Dysart. In 1868 under the ministry of ... unreadable...with the Methodist church at Geneseo. In 1891, while Rev. W, N. Chaffe was pastor of the church here he transferred his membership by letter to this place. During his connection with the church he lived a consistent and faithful Christian life. He was a faithful attendant at the services of the church until his health became so poor that he could not stand the vitiated air of a crowded room. But though deprived of the public services in God’s house he lived in close communication with his God.
In 1870, while stacking grain his health failed him and since that time he has been a constant sufferer with that fell disease consumption, and though a great sufferer during his sickness he was wonderfully patient, forgetting himself in. his thought for others.
