Leo William Joseph Lohr was born Feb. 17, 1923 to William Harry and Mary Ellen Lohr. He died July 30, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa, IA.
Petty Officer Lohr served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that vessel was sunk after being struck by Japanese torpedoes in the Pacific Ocean. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
