The following students received diplomas from the public school: Annetta Aslakson, Margaret Elleson, Lloyd Larson, Maythel Limbeck, Jean Nicholson and Lawrence Schlee.

School teaching was still a far from lucrative profession. The salaries of Ossian's faculty were listed individually for the first time. They were: Supt. Radtke—$1500; Principal Johnson—$1080; Edith Sykes—$900; Helen Maxwell—$900; Janice Weithorn—$720; Loretto McGary—$720; and Irene Haltmeyer—$765. Miss Haltmeyer has resigned and will be replaced by Miss Ruth Vaala for the next year.

A ten week reading contest was completed at De Sales. These students finished 1 , 2, 31 and were awarded trips to Dubuque: Richard Bohr, Peter Barthelme and Ralph Holtey.

The municipal election was a quiet affair with only one ticket in the field. The new officials are; H. P. Nicholson, mayor; A. S. Andresen, treas.; John Moe, assessor; and H. A. Dessel, Will Helwig, Gus Klisart, R. E. Montagen and Elmer Rosa—councilmen.

A "Believe it or not" column by Ripley featured Miss Lalla Lee of Ossian. Though she is classified as a deaf-mute, Miss Lee has command of three languages; English, German and Norwegian. Lalla lip-reads, as well as articulates, all of these tongues.

The town purchased a new Howe fire truck with two local fire insurance companies donating one half of the $3000 price.

The Legion Auxiliary is attempting to establish a community library. Citizens willing to donate books or magazines should contact Mrs. G. R. Nicholson or Miss Irene Meyer.

Many items of merchandise fell to new price lows at Ossian's business houses. Schroeder Clothing advertised: work pants—98¢; polo shirts—49¢; made to order suits—$22.50; and work shoes—$1.59 bo $2.98. Anderson & Klein offered: work shirts—49¢; Oshkosh overalls—$1.39; and 9' X 12' floor rugs—$6,95.

The new library at the legion rooms will be opened to the public on Saturday afternoons.

The Holder & Weier barbershop advised the public that treatments, with their new "Xervac" machine, will prevent baldness.

Monte, the Jeweler, and Haglie & Monte advertised closing-out sales.

Philip Schmitz purchased the Figge building. This structure, erected about 1900, contains the largest area of display space of any store in town. Schmitz offered the following bargains at a first annversary sale; living room suite— $48.50; oak kitchen cabinet—$24.95; bedroom suite—$45; and dining room table and chairs—$13.95.

Dr. Joseph Holtey and Oscar Jonesburg, local avaition enthusiasts, purchased a four passenger Curtis-Wright monoplane. While carrying passengers from a cow-pasture landing-site just east of town, the airplane was forced to make a dead-stick landing when its engine failed. The passengers, Clara & Joe Collins and Bud Staska, were "thrilled", but uninjured. Rodney Nicholson joined the airmen in purchasing a three-place Travelair biplane later in the year.

Betty Joyce Gilbert placed first and Victor Tinderholt was awarded second in county declamatory competition.
