Before I was thirty

My slippers were red, I could kick up my heels

Way over my head.

When I became forty

My slippers were blue But I could still dance

The whole night through. And then I reached fifty

And my slippers were black,

I could rush to the store

But puffed all the way back. But when I reached sixty

My slippers came off And my teeth would pop out

If I happened to cough.

Now I'm retired

And doze off in my chair Then get ready for bed

And take off my hair.

I awake in the morning

And crawl out of bed And look through the paper

To see if' I'm dead!

Monte, the jeweler, offered six new teaspoons in a swap for six old spoons plus six silver dimes.

A sub-county declamatory contest, with four schools in competition, was held at the opera house. The Ossian public school's entries dominated, with Betty Joyce Gilbert winning first in dramatic; Marian Boyle placing second in humorous; and Mildred Peck receiving third in oratorical. Betty Joyce went on to win first in the county.

A severe blizzard, followed by minus 30 degree temperature, struck the community in February. The town was isolated for three days when neither trains or autos could navigate the deep snow.

The Interstate Power Company offered a bargain price of 2¢ a KWH for any increase in the use of electricity over the previous year.

A "depression" party was held at the legion rooms under the auspices of the Community Church Ladies Aid. Admission, including lunch, was 10 and 15¢ .

A home talent play, Crashing Society, under the direction of Mrs. George Lansing and Miss Irene Meyer, was presented at the opera house for the benefit of Saint Francis Parish. The cast included: Clarence Eimers, Francis Holtey, Gladys Becker, Wynette Ean, Richard Klein, Philip Lansing, Mae Gerleman, Leo Lansing, Herminigild Dessel, Arnold Moellers, Hilaria Hanken and Cleone Dessel.
