The Dubuque Telegraph carried a news story on Ossian's second street fair.

The column was flattering as to crowds, organization, judging and success of the entertainment. BUT, when the oriental dancers were "crowded out" of New Hampton, they all flocked to Ossian where "green fields" promised rich pickings.

By misrepresentation, they received a license from the town, and started out to do business. By evening, many of the ladies of the community became aware of the scandalous performance of this group. They called Mayor Figge on the carpet and proceeded to read him the riot act. The mayor returned the license money to the Oriental Dancing Company and gave them three hours to leave town.

While all this was going on, the house of Mrs. Green was burglarized; J. Plumtex of Fort Atkinson, was assaulted and robbed of his purse; one of the exhibited steers broke out of his pen, and tromped on the stomach of his keeper, J. Hagelie, injuring him severely; a well-to-do retired farmer participated in a backyard shell game losing $55 to the operator.

All in all, it sounds like a lively time. No report on whether all this took place on Democratic or Republican Day.

The Bee comments: "Ossian may be a bit of a high roller, but we are not a high grass town." The attendance was estimated at 5000. Receipts were reported as $386 with $344 expenses.

With the season on praire chickens due to open on Sept. 1, a gun club was organized with the following listed as members; O. Gleisener, Nick Britton, F. J. Figge, Ghas. Holbrook, Abe Oxley, F. H. Merritt, Ed Waters and Geo. Burton.

The Ossian Percheron Horse Company was formed by the following farmers: M. J. Nicholson, Henry Beherans, Wm. Holtey, H. P. Nicholson, Wenzel Lansing, Andrew Etteldorf, Frank Schroeder, Ed Dowd and Philip Etteldorf. Chas. Schweinifus was named president of the group. Their first purchase was a Percheron stud horse costing $2300.

Both of the town's drug stores, Mills and Blanchaine, applied for liquor permits to dispense intoxicating spirits for medicinal purposes.

An electric light plant is being considered by several residents headed by
