FAMILY
George R. Huston was an officer in the Civil
War and lived in Appanoose County where he served as
Postmaster before moving to Allerton. Charles C.
Huston (1867-1941), his son, graduated in the third
class from Allerton High School. Charles
married Sarah Conklin in 1889. They were
the parents of:
Hazel H. (Shelton), Hugh C., Percy Kenneth,
Fred M., Noel C. and James C. Huston. Charles C.
Huston was the catcher with the Shane Hill Gang
baseball team that played the Chicago White Sox in
an exhibition game at Allerton.
Hazel Huston married Oliver Thurman Shelton. Hazel was
the second member of the second generation to
graduate from Allerton High School. Hazel and
Oliver Shelton were the parents of: Nell
(Beavers), Dorcas (Morris), James H. and Joseph M.
Shelton. Clarence
and
Nell Beavers are the parents of Glenn Hugh and Carol
Louise Beavers.
Nell Shelton Beavers was the first member of
the third generation to graduate from Allerton High. Jack
Preston Morris, Jr., son of Dorcas Morris, married
Sharon Goodner; they are the parents of Kimberly Ann
Morris. James
H. and Virginia (Gore) Shelton are the parents of
Judith Marie, who married John Kinkade; John Huston
Shelton who married Marilyn Swift; and Mary Lynn
Shelton. Joseph
M. Shelton married Bonnie Bonneman and are parents
of Linda Jo (Clark).
Percy Kenneth Huston married Mary De Silva. Their
children are: Daniel,
Helen and Robert.
Fred M. Huston married Fra Riley. Their
children are: Edward
N. and Jerry.
Charles Huston was a rural mail carrier at
Allerton before moving to Los Angeles, California. Fred M.
Huston took over his father’s rural mail route,
later being transferred to Promise City where he was
a rural mail carrier until retirement; his son,
Edward N., took over his father’s mail route. Thus, four
generations served the U. S. Postal Service. |
