GLENN HOUSTON FAMILY

Glenn Houston, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Arthur Houston married Cora Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Wilson, on November 6, 1909 at the Christian Parsonage in Corydon.  The couple started housekeeping on a farm near New Zion Church and have spent their entire married life in and near Allerton except for a year in Chillicothe, Missouri.

To this union were born eight children – two of whom died at an early age.  They are Florence of Postville; Eleanor, Davenport; Robert, Davenport (deceased); William, Bettendorf; Richard, Washington State; Virginia of Allerton, all of whom graduated from Allerton High School.  (Robert passed away May 24, 1972).  They also have fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Glenn was born in Trivoli, Illinois on February 11, 1889.  He and his family moved to Fairfield and eventually to Allerton.  He attended school in Allerton and later attended Highland Park College in Des Moines.  For many years Glenn played drums for band concerts, drum and fife corps and in small dance bands.  One of his favorite pastimes has been painting pictures, especially scenery.  His quick sense of humor has been shown in his cartoon type of picture.

Cora was born in Allerton on June 23, 1890.  She graduated in 1909.  Cora is a member of Rebekah Lodge, of which she is a Past Noble Grand, Royal Neighbor’s Lodge and Wednesday Club.  She was active in school functions in early years.

November 6, 1973, marks their 64th wedding anniversary.  The couple resides in Allerton.
