Glenn Houston, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Arthur Houston married Cora Wilson,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac
Wilson, on November 6, 1909 at the Christian
Parsonage in Corydon. The
couple started housekeeping on a farm
near New Zion Church and have spent their
entire married life in and near
Allerton except for a year in Chillicothe,
Missouri.
To this union were born eight children
–
two of whom died at an early age. They
are Florence of Postville; Eleanor, Davenport;
Robert, Davenport (deceased);
William, Bettendorf; Richard, Washington
State; Virginia of Allerton, all of
whom graduated from Allerton High School.
(Robert passed away May 24, 1972).
They also have fifteen grandchildren
and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Glenn was born in Trivoli, Illinois on
February 11, 1889. He
and his family
moved to Fairfield and eventually to Allerton.
He attended school in Allerton and
later attended Highland Park College
in Des Moines.
For many years Glenn
played drums for band concerts, drum and fife
corps and in small dance
bands. One
of his favorite pastimes has
been painting pictures, especially scenery.
His quick sense of humor has been shown
in his cartoon type of picture.
Cora was born in Allerton on June 23,
1890. She
graduated in 1909. Cora
is a member of Rebekah Lodge, of which
she is a Past Noble Grand, Royal Neighbor’s
Lodge and Wednesday Club. She
was active in school functions in early
years.
November 6, 1973, marks their 64th
wedding anniversary. The
couple resides
in Allerton. |
