FAMILY
The Binau family came to Ohio from Germany in
1846. There
were 11 children, 4 of whom later moved to Iowa. One,
George F., came in 1880. In 1882 he
married Ida Hulsebus, who had come to Iowa from
Germany as a child.
They lived on a farm near Humeston until
moving to a farm west of Allerton in 1885. They
retired in 1912 and moved into Allerton. George
died in 1929 and Ida died in 1940. They had
six children. I.
George R. married
Lenna S. Gibbs in 1907. They
farmed near Allerton until 1965 when they moved to
Calvin Manor Retirement Home in Des Moines, Iowa,
where they now live.
They had three children. 1. Pearl
H.
married Louise Babcock in 1936. They live
on the family farm near Allerton. They have
2 children. a. Charles R.
married Twyla Levis in 1960. They live
in Corydon, Ia., where Charles is with the Citizens
South Central Insurance Agency. They have
2 children – Carol and Mark. b. Dorothy
F. Married Dave Higdon in 1963. They live
in Brighton, Ia., where Dave is pastor in the United
Methodist Church.
They had 3 children – Gerald who died in
1971, James and Richard. 2. Ray
Earl,
who died in infancy. 3. Opal
M.
married William Ashby in 1938. They live
in Des Moines, where William teaches school. They had
one child, Craig, who died in infancy. II.
Laura E. married
Pete Newingham in 1903. He died in
1924. They
had 5 children – Homer, Maybelle, Charlie, Virgil
and Dorothy. Laura
lived most of her life in Kansas before moving to
Oregon where she died in 1970. III.
Hannah K.
graduated from Iowa Bible Training School in Des
Moines in 1917 and taught there for 12 years. She was
supervisor of Bidwell Social Service Center until
retiring in 1954.
She now lives in Wesley Acres Retirement Home
in Des Moines. IV.
Karl B. married
Alice Hindman in 1912.
She died in 1918. He married
Lorena Duden in 1921.
Karl operated the Binau Garage until 1947 and
died in 1954. Lorena
returned to teaching in 1943, retiring in 1962. She now
lives in Wesley Acres Retirement Home in Des Moines. They had
one child. 1. Lois
married
Jack Watson in 1945.
They live in Des Moines where Jack is 2nd
Vice Pres. of Bankers Life. They have
1 child. a. Robert
married Linda Gable in 1970, and both are teaching
in Decorah, Iowa. V.
Lena E. married
Ben Gibbs in 1919.
They lived near Allerton until her death in
1936. They
had 2 children – Rex and Lenore. (More
information in Gibbs Family History). VI.
Margaret taught
school until 1932 when she married Clarence Preston,
a farmer at Carlisle, Iowa. She died
in 1936. |
