The diary of James Taylor Thomas was transcribed by Kristen Twinam and submitted by Mike Huston.
Introduction
Kristen Twinam's family has the original diary of James T. Thomas. Kristen transcribed his diary years ago and donated a print copy to the Washington County Genealogical Society, and I found her transcription while I was doing research there. Kristen and I have communicated via email and she was kind enough to share an electronic copy with me, and has given me permission to pass it along to the Washington County, IAGenWeb. - Mike Huston
Kristen Twinam explains, "James Taylor Thomas wrote this diary during the Civil War. He was my great great great Grandmother's brother.

He was one of the 1st to enlist in the Union Army of the Civil War in September 1861. He served until October 17, 1864 when he was
discharged when his term expired in Galesville, Alabama. He writes about serving in Missouri, Vicksburg and Shiloh.
He died in Crawfordsville, Iowa from disease he picked up in in Civil War on February 26, 1869 he died at the age of 30."
Below are pictures of his gravestone and some pages from the diary. Also listed below is part of the Thomas/Twinam Family Tree.
