WILLIAM HUSTON

BORN 1737. "Lieut., from Pennsylvania, an officer entitled to half pay. His name is found in a list of officers of the Continental Army of the Revolution who were either killed in service, became supernumerary, or served to the end of the war, and acquired the right of half pay, commutation and bounty land under a proceeding Act of Congress." source: Roll of Revolutionary Soldiers, W T Saffell

William Huston son of a Lieut William Huston lost his life in the War of 1812. He ranked as Captain then rose to Major. A serious time arose in camp and a perilous trip was called for, for a scouting party, three men volunteered; Major Huston was one of the party, they took a boat and rowed down the river, they were never heard from, but in the spring three skeletons were found on the river bank and their equipment near them. The manner they met deaths will never be known.- Extracts from History.  Major Huston was father of Judge Samuel Jay Huston born 1800 in White Sulphur Springs, VA., he came down the river to Portsmouth, O., with his parents on a keel boat. He built and owned large boats, which he ran between Portsmouth and New Orleans.
