THE FOUNDING OF ZEARING, IOWA
A New Town
Nellie Richardson Lewis Warner said that the surveyors came to the Richardson home on October 16, 1881. The town was founded on October 17, 1881.
The county surveyor's two helpers and James L. Williams stayed at the Richardson home over night. A new baby arrived at the Richardson home during the night.
Nellie said that she was only eleven years old at the time so her father was a very busy man.
The following account of the founding of Zearing has been taken from a letter written to me by Lena Richardson Warner. Lena describes from memory the founding of our town.
