PRICE, JAMES M.—Co. G, 26th Michigan Infantry
James enlisted at Gallen, Michigan, on August 15, 1862. He enlisted as a First Sergeant. He was discharged on November 28, 1863, for disability.
James did provost duty at Alexandria, Virginia, until April 20, 1863. He was in the siege of Suffolk, Virginia. In July, 1863, he was ordered to join the Army of the Potomac in the field.

SMITH, ROBERT D.—Co. G, 92nd Illinois Infantry
Robert enlisted on August 9, 1862. He was discharged on July 10, 1865, at Chicago, Illinois.
Robert fought in the important battles of Fort Donelson, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. He marched with Sherman's army to the sea. Robert also campaigned in the Carolinas.

According to Lena Richardson Warner, Zearing took the Spanish American War calmly. The ladies sewed for the Cuban relief societies. Zearing furnished two men for the armed services.
BURKHART, HUBERT E.—Co. H, 49th Iowa Infantry
Hubert enlisted on June 21, 1898. He was promoted to Musician on December 1, 1898. Hubert was discharged on May 13, 1899, at Savannah, Georgia.

Richardson, EDWARD A.—Co. H, 49th Iowa Infantry
Edward enlisted on June 22, 1898. He was discharged on May 13, 1899, at Savannah, Georgia.

The Zearing men were sent to Jacksonville, Florida. Later they were transferred to a camp at Savannah, Georgia. They landed at Havana, Cuba, on December 21, 1898.
The men of the regiment protected water supplies, took charge of surrendered property, and did guard duty in Cuba. They participated in the ceremonies attending the lowering of the Spanish flag and the raising of the flag of the United States in the city of Havana.
