graduation from college she worked in five libraries. They were the Waterloo Public, Iowa State College, the normal school library at Whitewater, Wisconsin, the county high school library at Missoula, Montana, and the J. J. Hill Reference at St. Paul, Minnesota.
Amy became the Department Secretary of the Iowa Department of the Grand Army of the Republic in June, 1938. She retired on July 6, 1953. Amy is the past president of the Department of Iowa, Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Georgia Risden Van Horn : Georgia was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter of James Risden, and the granddaughter of Watson Risden, Co. H, 128th Indiana Infantry. Georgia's grandmother was a prominent Civil War nurse.
Georgia was a part time assistant in the Department of Iowa, Grand Army of the Republic office, from September, 1951, until June, 1953. She was in charge after the retirement of Amy Noll.
Clarence Omar Dool of Zearing Post 116, The American Legion, worked on the local records during the 1930's. He compiled considerable information. Vincent Plaits of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, Leslie M. Carter of Rockford, Illinois, and W. B. Dale of Rock Rapids, Iowa, were very helpful.
ARMSTRONG, BENNETT A.—Co. A, 12th Iowa Infantry; 8th Iowa Cavalry
Bennett enlisted on September 14, 1861, in the 12th Iowa Infantry. He was discharged on April 1, 1862, at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. On August 18, 1863, he enlisted in the 8th Iowa Cavalry. He received his final discharge on August 13, 1865, at Macon, Georgia.
Bennett campaigned in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and into Georgia. He fought in the important battles of Fort Donelson, Tennessee, and Jacksonville, Alabama. On April 1, 1865, Bennett was promoted to Fourth Corporal.

BARNARD (George) JOHN—Co. G., 105th Illinois Infantry
George enlisted on August 15, 1862. He was discharged on June 7, 1865.
George fought in the battles of Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, and Savannah, Georgia. He also campaigned in Tennessee. George was with Sherman's army on the march to the sea.
