The story of the organization of Unit No. 116 was taken from Clifford J. Greenberg's history of Post 116. List of charter members and presidents was furnished by Fern Reese McBride and Irene Lyons Steelman.
During recent years Zearing Unit No. 116 has emphasized service in the Ladies in Blue. The Ladies in Blue help to make life happier for the patients at the Soldiers Home Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Zearing Unit No. 116 has been in charge of local poppy sales during the years the unit has been in existence. Unit No. 116 has also sponsored other fund drives. An example would be the annual drive for funds for crippled children.

In the spring of 1953, Wilma Cox Helland was elected secretary and treasurer of the 6th district auxiliary organization. Wilma was the president of the 6th district auxiliary organization, 1955-56.
