You will find names listed with local organizations that are not Zearing names. A number of people from outside our community joined local organizations.
I had to depend on local records and local residents for the names of the early families in our community. That means that some of the early families might not be included because I did not know about them.
I hope that I have included the great majority of the families that had a sincere interest in the welfare of our community.
C. W. Tucker—The Tucker family is listed in the 1870 census.
A. J. Reed — His name appears in the early school records.
D. W. & A. B. Church — Their names appear in the early school records. Albert F. Rahfeldt said that he remembered them. According to his memory they moved to Jasper county, Iowa. Albert said that he thought one of the men was associated with the sheriff's office in Jasper county and was killed in the line of duty.
H. S. DeWitt—His name appears in the early school records.
Patrick McClain — Patrick's name appears in the early school records.
Jonathan Fisher — His name appears in the early school records.
Jesse Corbit — Constance Flower Lundin said that Jesse lived in Section 8, Lincoln township.
F. H. Dewey — His name appears in the early school records.
Charles Graves — His name appears in the early school records.
Abraham J. Banta—He is listed in the 1875 Iowa Atlas as a farmer living in Section 4, Lincoln Township.
Charles Edgett — He is listed in the 1875 Iowa Atlas as a farmer living in Section 27, Lincoln township. He was probably the brother of Fidelia Edgett Clift.
Charles Hendrickson — Charles was listed in the 1875 Iowa Atlas as a farmer living in Section 7, Lincoln township.
Lewis T. Parker — Lewis was listed in the 1875 Iowa Atlas as a farmer living in Section 10, Lincoln township.
Jonathan J. Thorne — He was listed in the 1875 Iowa Atlas as a farmer living in Section 16, Lincoln township. Other information relates that he was a cattle feeder. He wore a huge buffalo coat on any suitable. occasion. A son, Oliver J. Thorne, was one of the first station agents in Zearing.
