WICKS :

Many people will remember Lonnie Wicks exercising his horse on the roads around Zearing. There was turmoil when the spirited horse and Lonnie disagreed.

Although Alonsa J. Wicks was a prominent resident of our community, I have been unable to obtain any information about his early life. Alonsa married Lillian Etta Norton at Meriden, Illinois, on January 13, 1878. They moved to our community several years after the marriage.

Lillian Etta Norton was born at Earlville, Illinois, on September 28, 1859. She was the daughter of Hiram O. and Nancy Davis Norton. Etta's parents moved to our community in 1881.

Alonsa and Etta were the parents of two daughters. They were Edith Maude and Mary Ethel. In later years, a grandson, Ora Bump, lived at the Wicks home.

Etta died on February 1, 1931. She is buried in the Zearing Cemetery. Alonsa died in California. That is all the information we have.
