Nicholas died on June 14, 1898. Sarah S. died on November 13, 1880. They are buried in the Illinois Grove Cemetery.
Benjamin Franklin Ufford was born on December 26, 1857, near Port Byron, New York. Dora J. Robertson was born on January 30, 1860, near Port Byron, New York. Franklin and Dora were married at Port Byron in December, 1881. They moved to our community in the spring of 1882.
Franklin and Dora were the parents of four children. They were Curtis, Vie, Lois, and Sylvia.
Franklin died in 1942 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Dora died in February, 1949, at Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Varnum :
Descendants of Fredrick S. and Martha Varnum are living on the farm north of Zearing, Iowa, which was purchased by Fredrick S. in 1886. The family moved to the farm from Marshall county in 1887. The first house was located near the west line of the farm. Later the house was moved to its present site.
Fredrick S. Varnum was born in 1856. We do not have the place of birth. Martha M. McCall was born at Fairbault, Minnesota, in 1864. Fredrick S. married Martha on December 3, 1885. Their first home was located in Marshall county.
Fredrick S. and Martha were the parents of four children. They were John, Harry, Mary, and Anselm.
Fredrick S. died in 1909. Martha is living at Nevada, Iowa, in 1956.
VINSEL :
Roy Vinsel has always been one of the friendliest residents of our community. The Vinsel family has been a highly regarded family in our community.
Roy Vinsel was born on December 22, 1880, at Adamsville, Ohio. Roy came to our community in 1905. Roy married Blanche Holcomb, the daughter of William and Amelia Bunker Holcomb of our community, on January 5, 1910.
Roy and Blanche were the parents of three children. They were Kenneth, Karroll H., and Amelia. Kenneth and Karroll H. are living in our community in 1956.
Roy and Blanche are living in Zearing in 1956.
WALDIE :
The Waldie family was a jovial family. If you had a bad case of the blues the Waldie boys could cheer you up. Clara Waldie clerked in local stores for many years. She was an excellent clerk.
