Thompson :
Laura Ida Thompson Golly was one of my teachers at the country school in Section 14. She was an excellent teacher. She was the only member of the well known Thompson family of our community that I was acquainted with.
James M. Thompson was born at Earlville, Illinois, in April, 1857. Edith Lillian Sauer was born at Sandwich, Illinois, on July 8, 1865. James and Edith Lillian were married at Sandwich, Illinois, in 1884. They move to a farm north of Zearing, Iowa, in 1893.
James and Edith Lillian were the parents of five children. They were :
The Thompson family moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota, in 1909.
James died in June, 1921. Edith Lillian died in February, 1932. They are buried at Blue Earth, Minnesota.THORNTON :
Everyone in our community is acquainted with the Thornton family. Members of the family have been active citizens of our community for many years.
Peter Thornton was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, on August 31, 1853. He was a small boy when the family moved from Scotland to Grant county, Wisconsin. Harriet Augusta Tubbs was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, on August 15, 1860. Peter and Harriet Augusta were married at Bloomington, Wisconsin, on December 28, 1877. They moved to our community after the marriage.
In 1882, Peter moved his family to Pipestone county, Minnesota. The trip was made by covered wagon. In 1891, the family returned to our community.
Peter and Harriet Augusta were the parents of six children. They were Nellie, Hazel, Fred, Merle, Grace, and Edith. Grace Thornton Gilmore, Fred, and Merle are living in our community in 1956.
Peter died on August 11, 1934. Harriet Augusta died on March 7, 1933.
