TERWILLIGER :

We have very little information about the important Terwilliger family of our community. Wallace H. Terwilliger served on the first school board. He represented Lincoln township on the county board of supervisors when the county board was composed of one member from each township.

We found a letter written by Horatio C. Wickham which stated that the Terwilliger family was one of the first families to arrive in our community after 1860.

1870—Iowa Census

THATCHER :

The Thatcher family was one of the leading families in the early history of our community. The family had a prominent role in building our community.

Thomas Thatcher was born in Clinton county, Ohio, in 1822. His parents were from Virginia. In 1844, Thomas married Elizabeth Simons of Richmond, Indiana. They moved to our community in 1869. At that time there was only one home between the Thatcher farm and Nevada, Iowa. It was a distance of approximately twenty-five miles.

Thomas and Elizabeth were the parents of seven children. They were Lucinda, Jesse W., Charles N., Viola, Eldora, William, and Ella.

Thomas died on May 27, 1905. Elizabeth died on February 22, 1907.
