Zearing, Iowa 1956 History

brought his family from Germany. Julius Sr. moved in with Charles. However the house proved too small for two families. So Julius Sr. moved his family to State Center, Iowa. While living at State Center, Julius Sr. taught Carl Greenberg the cobbler's trade.

Charles lived in our community for several years. Then he moved his family to Sioux City, Iowa, and from there to Canada. Local relatives do not know the whereabouts of the Charles Schultze family in 1954.

After living at State Center for more than a year, Julius Sr. moved his family to a house on Main Street, east of Pearl Street, in Zearing.

Julius Schultze Sr. was born in Germany in October, 1852. Fredricka Goetze was born near Wittenberg, Germany, on November 11, 1850. Julius Sr. and Fredricka were married in Germany in 1872.

Julius Sr. and Fredricka were the parents of six children. One died in infancy. The others were Julius Jr., Rica, William, Charles, and Bertha. Julius Jr. lived in our community all of his life. He was a prominent farmer. Julius Jr. was active in the Zearing Telephone Association, the Zearing Creamery Company, and was a rural school director for twelve years.

Julius Sr. died on September 22, 1888. Neighbors admired the courage of Fredricka, after his death. She kept the family together. Fredricka died on November 16, 1918.

Scott:

Lee O. Scott was a farmer in our community. He was a prominent resident of our community for many years.

Lee O. Scott was born near Winchester, Indiana, on April 24, 1868. Lee came to our community in 1887. Maria Blayney came to our community with her parents in March, 1882. Lee and Maria were married on March 19, 1891.

Lee and Maria were the parents of four daughters. They were Lillie, Mabel, Harriet, and Bertha. Lee and Maria also reared a nephew, Mack Blayney.

Lee died on August 1, 1933. Maria died on October 30, 1951.

SCOVILLE :

The Scoville family has been a prominent and popular family in our community for many years.

Lloyd C. Scoville was born at Rhodes, Iowa, on November 16, 1888. Esther H. Erickson was born at McCallsburg, Iowa, on December 24, 1889. Lloyd and Esther were married on February 19, 1910, at Roland, Iowa. Lloyd came to our community in 1904.
