We do not have the date of John's death. He died at Goldfield, Iowa. Nancy died on September 16, 1886.

ORTHMANN :

Members of the Orthmann family were early pioneers in this community. Henry and Andrew came to our community with John Rahfeldt in 1866.

Fred Orthmann and his family moved to a farm northwest of Zearing at a later date.

Henry Orthmann is buried in the Zearing Cemetery. He was born on October 15, 1828, probably in Germany. He died in our community on November 20, 1882.

According to Albert F. Rahfeldt, Fred and Andrew moved to Paullina, Iowa, where they established permanent homes.

Patton :

George Patton was a charter member of Zearing, Iowa. He was a partner in. Zearing's first hardware store. Thomas W. Patton was a member of the local G.A.R.

George Patton was born in Frederick county, Maryland, on December 6, 1812. He moved to Ohio with his parents when he was seven years old. The family moved to Indiana when George was sixteen years old. George lived in Indiana until 1855.

Mary M. Wissler was born on April 18, 1817. We do not have the date of her marriage to George. George and Mary left Indiana in a covered wagon. They settled on a farm in Marshall county, Iowa.

George joined the German Baptist church in 1835. He became a minister in 1838. In 1856, George was the central figure in the organization of the Bethel Chapel, which was located near Albion, Iowa.

George and Mary were the parents of seven children. They were Owell, Thomas W., George Jr., William, Isabelle Patton Johnson, Helen Patton Burroughs, and Anna.

George died on February 18, 1892. Mary died on July 19, 1895. They are buried at Albion, Iowa.

Thomas W. Patton, the son of George and Mary, was born at Delphi, Indiana, on August 26, 1839. Thomas W. was an Indiana veteran of the Civil War. He married Harriett Jane Price at Albion, Iowa, on August 24, 1868.

Thomas and Harriett Jane were the parents of two children. They were Frank and Nettie. Nettie was a popular Zearing school teacher in the 1890's.

Thomas W. died on February 10, 1918. He was buried at Liscomb, Iowa. We do not have the date of Harriett Jane's death.
