Mills :
The Mills family is a prominent Story county family. Guy Mills was a resident of our community in the early 1900's.
Guy W. Mills was born on March 27, 1884, at Clyde, Jasper county, Iowa. Leila Edith Peck was born on April 20, 1887, at McCallsburg, Iowa. Guy and Leila were married on November 29, 1906, at McCallsburg, Iowa. The family moved to Zearing in 1908. However, Guy had published a newspaper in Zearing before 1908. He started a new newspaper after he moved his family.
Guy and Leila were the parents of three children. Carroll was born in McCallsburg. Lawrence and Willis were born in Zearing. Guy and Leila are living in McCallsburg in 1955.
MITCHELL :
The name Mitchell was a well known name in our community from the 1880's to the early 1900's.
William Mitchell came to Illinois Grove with his parents when he was twelve years old. When he was a young man, William went to Wisconsin to work as a butter tub maker. He met Anna Flower in Wisconsin. William and Anna were married at Brodhead, Wisconsin, on October 16, 1870. They moved to a farm near Zearing in 1883.
William and Anna were the parents of thirteen children. They were Carrie, Betty, Charles, Ida, Josie, Ora, Linnie, William Jr., Walter, Bert, Emma, Nellie, and Lydia.
Carrie, Betty, Charles, and Ida died in Wisconsin. They were the victims of diphtheria. Nellie married Joe Adams. They live at San Diego, California. Lydia is the wife of Dr. George Borgett of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Walter is living in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Bert married Olive Grewell of Clemons, Iowa. Bert is a carpenter and painter at Colo, Iowa. We have no information concerning the other members of the family.
William died in 1916. Anna died on September 23, 1935.
There isn't much information available concerning the other Mitchell family of our community. Mr. Mitchell was the depot agent during the early 1900's. There were three children in the family. They were Dolly, Pearl, and Ralph.
MOON :
The Moon families had a leading role in the activities of Zearing, Iowa, in the early 1900's. Lute and Henry served on the town council. They were active in organizations. Lute and Henry were Zearing business men for many years. They were cousins.
Lewis Henry Moon was born on October 14, 1869, at Tipton, Iowa. Alta Mary Fitch was born at Elkport, Clayton county, Iowa,
