Milton C. McVitty was born in Pennsylvania on July 4, 1862. Madolin Kauffman was born in 1864. Milton and Madolin were married in Pennsylvania. They moved to our community in 1910.

Milton and Madolin were the parents of three children. They were Maude, Daisy, and Homer.

Milton died on December 5, 1923. Madolin died on April 24, 1928.

MALIET :

The Maliet family was a prominent family in our community for many years. However, only one member of the original Mallet family lives in our community in 1956. She is Mary Maliet Wheelock.

Nicholas Maliet was born in Germany in 1844. He came to Chicago, Illinois, in 1872. Nicholas married Anna Steffen in 1878. They moved to our community several years after the marriage. The family left the farm and moved into Zearing in 1916.

Nicholas and Anna were the parents of nine children. They were Charles, Nicholas Jr., Michael, Mary, Henry, Demmie, Anna, Catherine, and Ella.

Nicholas died on February 26, 1926. Anna died in 1934.

MARONDA :

The Maronda family belongs on our list of pioneer residents. The family was well known in our community.

William Maronda was born in Pomerania, Germany, on November 6, 1829. Caroline Gumz was born in Pomerania, Germany, on September 15, 1825.

William and Caroline were the parents of eight children. One died in infancy. The others were Fred G., Joanna, Augusta, William C., Mary, John C., and Anna.

William and Caroline moved to our community in the 1890's. Their daughter, Augusta, was the wife of William F. Young.

William died on August 2, 1912. Caroline died on August 10, 1901.

Martin :

One could not find a more popular family in the history of our community than the Martin family. Harry and Myrtle owned the Home Cafe in Zearing. Harry was a Zearing mayor.

Harry G. Martin was born on February 23, 1867, at Wenona, Illinois. Myrtle Kemp was born on October 31, 1873, at Wenona, Illinois. Harry and Myrtle were married on November 30, 1899, at Wenona, Illinois. They moved to Zearing, Iowa, in 1903. There were no children in the family.
