LEHMAN :
The Lehman family has had possession of the Lehman farm in our community for fifty-six years. Ernest Lehman is living on the farm in 1956.
William Lehman was born on October 8, 1864, in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. Emma Stare was born on March 22, 1865, in York county, Pennsylvania. William and Emma were married on March 17, 1886, at Oreana, Illinois. They moved to our community in February, 1900.
William and Emma were the parents of six children. They were :
Ernest, Hubbard, Iowa.Ida, Mrs. Henry Mersman, Marshalltown, Iowa.Gertrude, Mrs. Harry W. Britten, Zearing, Iowa.Bessie, Mrs. Elmer Gelhause, Hubbard, Iowa.Grace, Mrs. Harry Sawtell, Ames, Iowa.Glenn, Madrid, Iowa.
William died on January 16, 1949. Emma died on January 17, 1914.
LeRoy :
The LeRoy brothers, Charles and William J., were prominent Zearing business men. They built the LeRoy building in Zearing in 1904. They owned a furniture store, funeral home, and toy shop.
The LeRoy family came to our community from Missouri. William arrived first. Later Charles H. came.
Charles and his wife, Belle Cordle, were the parents of two children. They were Frank and Bertha. Charles H. died in Zearing on July 11, 1914.
William and his wife, Asinnath Bailey, were the parents of a daughter, Selma.
LEWIS :
Arthur W. and Ellis J. Lewis were the editors of The Zearing Register, the first newspaper in Zearing. William F. Lewis helped them. The Lewis family lived in Zearing for a short time.
William F. Lewis married Ruth Townsend on April 4, 1861. William and Ruth were the parents of eight children. They were :
