John and Emma were the parents of four children. The two oldest lived for a short time. The others were Merle H. and Orla. Orla, the wife of James Lawrence Smith, is living at Sioux City, Iowa, in 1955. Merle H. has been a very successful chiropractor at McAllen, Texas, for many years.
John died on January 14, 1932. Emma died in 1944 at McAllen, Texas.
LEARNED :
Henry Learned was a member of the local G.A.R. He was a farmer in our community. Local residents say that Henry was the type of man who looks like an athlete.
Henry Learned was born in 1844. We do not know where he spent his boyhood. However, we know that he was in Iowa in 1862. Henry married Lucinda Dickinson.
Henry and Lucinda were the parents of five children. They were Mollie, Savilla, James, Attila, and Mabel.
Henry died in 1914. He is buried at Nevada, Iowa. We do not have the date of Lucinda's death.
LEFEVRE :
A news item in The Zearing Register of March 9, 1883, stated that a man by the name of LeFevre had arrived from Illinois and settled on a farm in the south part of Lincoln township. The item contained the comment that there was room in the community for men of the type that LeFevre appeared to be. Many years later A. Deyo LeFevre served as the mayor of Zearing.
A. Deyo LeFevre was born in New York. At the age of eighteen, he moved to Genoa, Illinois. On October 26, 1881, A. Deyo married Emma Dell Sowers at Genoa. They moved to our community in 1883.
A Deyo and Emma were the parents of four sons. One died in infancy. The others were Marion, Ralph, and Harry.
A. Deyo died on September 7, 1935. Emma died on April 26, 1944.
Dr. Marion D. LeFevre, a veterinarian, came to Zearing in 1908. Dr. LeFevre was the first veterinarian in our community who was a graduate of a general course in veterinary medicine.
Dr. LeFevre was born on July 7, 1856, in New York. He was the brother of A. Deyo. Dr. LeFevre married Mayme Heath at Genoa, Illinois. They were the parents of a daughter, Mae.
Dr. LeFevre was an active member of Pacific Lodge No. 469, A. F. & A. M. He died at the Masonic Sanitarium, Bettendorf, Iowa, on March 7, 1939. Mae died on February 29, 1944, at Chicago, Illinois. We do not have the date of Mayme's death. Her funeral was on August 22, 1921.
